The rooms.
Blog time. Like the old saying goes, “what makes a house a home is the rooms.” Guess what? We have floor plan concepts! Before we get to that part, let me fill you in on the home concept we chose. After very little discussion and consideration, we decided on the L concept. We landed on this because the shape frames the view of Colvos Passage nicely and of all the letters of the alphabet the one we want to live in the most is the L.
L is for Light.
L is for Laugh.
L is for Learn.
L is for Love. I also like the word ‘serendipitous’ but L is not for that.
Jay (brother-in-law) refers to the prime hangout spot of the future outdoor space as “the armpit.” Since “the armpit” isn’t an inviting name for a sunset cocktail locale we are calling that area of the home “L’aisselle.” Basically just “the armpit” but in French because ain’t nothing uninviting about French words (except ‘peu engageant’).
The floor plans all highlight concepts of open public living space and private family dwellings. There is a water closet in the primary bathroom because the sense-signaling activities those rooms service can stay out of my bedroom.
Option 1 The Quaker’s Castlevania in Rouge
This option features vaulted ceilings in the common space and a lofted den / workout space on the second level (the dashed X signifies a double-height space). The bedroom area is a single story with a main bedroom plus en suite (and deck) and two additional bedrooms sharing a Jack and Jill bathroom. The office is tucked into the really cool narrow glass walkway between the common space and private areas. The garage is detached and sports a guest living area above.
Option 2 The Nightly Watchman’s Road to Monte Carlo
This option features similar vaulted ceilings in the common space and a den / workout space on the second level. The bedroom area is a single story with a main bedroom plus en suite and two additional bedrooms sharing a bathroom with semi-private access. Basically no Jack and JIll. The office is tucked into the really cool narrow glass walkway between the common space and private areas as before. The garage is attached and sports a guest living area above.
Option 3 A Spirited Debate Among Alder Wisps
This option is all one level with a detached garage. Similar to the other options, this one also features clearly defined public and private space. The den is placed at the south end of the house and we are discussing options of adding a guest bed and bath on the other side of the southernmost wall, connected to the den. The bedroom combination is slightly different than before and the office area has been transformed into a pretty spectacular entry.
What are your thoughts? Are there parts of some you love and others you love less? How would you mix and match them? Reach out to us with comments or ideas! We have loved hearing from friends and family throughout the process!
Kelsey had nothing to do with naming the floor plans. Don’t put that nonsense on her.
Take care.
