The upside-down.
When last we met, we were in the throes of finalizing a solution for our septic system problem, a problem with many facets indeed, like:
The comeback.
Welp, it wouldn’t be a Real Blog if we didn’t have at least one post that started with something like, “Wow, it’s been a while since we made any updates on here!,” so I guess we can consider ourselves a Real Blog now, and you can consider this the first of what are sure to be many “Wow, it’s been a while since we made any updates on here!” posts. Did we forget how to sign into Squarespace? Sure did!
Anyway, while the blog has been quiet, things have been happening
The outside.
Well, things are starting to take shape, and take on dimension. In our most recent meeting with our design team, we reviewed a couple of revised floor plan and layout options, all variations of the L shape we loved from the initial concepts. I’ll show you all three, but I’ll also tell you now that we’ve already chosen the one that spoke to us most and it’s this one.
The rooms.
Blog time. Like the old saying goes, “what makes a house a home is the rooms.” Guess what? We have floor plans! Before we get to that part, let me fill you in on the home concept we chose. After very little discussion and consideration, we decided on the L concept. We landed on this because the shape frames the view of Colvos Passage nicely and of all the letters of the alphabet the one we want to live in the most is the L.
The concept.
Wow that last post was really boring, wasn’t it? This one should be more fun! It’s definitely been more fun for us lately as we’re out of “how’s the dirt?” phase and moving into the “now how about that house?” phase. We had a very interesting and informative conversation with a lender, so here I’ll be breaking down the details of how a construction loan works. Just kidding, I wouldn’t do that to you after the last post’s 2300 words on surveys! Today we’re talking about design.
The lot.
What’s kind of wild about where we’re at with the house project now is that, while the lot is empty and we JUST officially closed last week, we’ve already put about 4 months of work (and many several dollars) into the effort. So what have we been doing in all that time? Well, let me tell you: we have been learning things. Some of those lessons were expensive! Some took us longer than they should have. Some of them were par for the course because, as you’ll see, this was not the least complicated land purchase.
It starts.
Welp… we’re moving! Eventually. Soon-ish (hopefully). In like 2/2.5/3 years. The timeline depends on a lot of factors because we’ll be building (!!!) our dream house (!!!!) on a beautiful piece of property on Vashon Island (!!!!!) that as of this week we now officially own (!!!!!!).
